The mission of the presented scientific research consist in generalisation the results of production development at some chemical plants located in the European part of Russia by the very beginning of the 20th century. The research objective of our work is to determine the characteristics of a large and advanced chemical enterprise in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Contrary to the mythologems about “rudimentary” state of the Russian chemical industry before 1917, which is still encountered in some works, the advanced nature of several chemical industries is clearly demonstrated.
