The focus is on the theoretical basis for constructing versions, presented in the form of forensic characteristics of crimes, the need to improve which is due to a number of problems. Forensic characteristics of abuse of office will be complete if they contain a description of typical elements of the material structure of this crime, which will contribute to the objectification of the process of putting forward versions in the course of its investigation. It is proposed to construct versions in relation to the subject of abuse of authority, taking into account the need to establish the following circum-stances: the subject's belonging to a certain category of officials and the commission of actions by him, using powers contrary to the interests of the service; the method and circumstances of committing the abuse (place and time); the consequences of committing the abuse.
