The article examines verbal phraseological units denoting the social status of a person and his/her role in society. The work uses descriptive and definitional methods, as well as the method of contextual analysis. The material for the study was phraseological units with the meaning of behavior and social status, extracted by the method of continuous sampling from Russian phraseological dictionaries and illustrated with examples from the texts of fiction by Russian writers of the 19th-21st centuries. It was found that in Russian-speaking society, behavioral traits reflecting mutual assistance, an active life position, and selflessness are important. Verbal phraseological units do not record external manifestations of social status, which allows us to conclude that this feature is unimportant for society. The content of most units corresponds to the norm of behavior. Phraseologisms actively participate in transformations, which indicates their real and living functioning, constant renewal of meaning, and increased expression. stable verbnominal combinations (phraseological).
