Abstract
In the process of conducting scientific research of various phenomena of public life, the historical method is widely used as a method of scientific knowledge. This method, as applied to the problem under consideration, allows us to understand the socio-economic and political-legal demand for the introduction of criminal liability for counterfeiting. A comparative study of the evolution of Russian pre-revolutionary and Soviet legislation will provide an opportunity to obtain objective materials on the characteristics of counterfeiting. The purpose of this article is to consider legislative monuments of the pre-revolutionary and Soviet period on liability for counterfeiting, which posed an increased social danger to the state, undermined its financial interests, and destabilized the system of public administration. Taking this into account, government bodies in these periods carried out an organization to counteract these negative phenomena.
