Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the worldview functions of argot in two completely different cultural and linguistic contexts – Russian and Sri Lankan. The comparative analysis is a study of how argot reflects the perception of the world and social reality of different peoples. Criminal elements in Russia and Sri Lanka perceive law-abiding citizens as weak, naive and ignorant of real life, which is expressed in a misanthropic, misanthropic view of society. However, in Russian-speaking culture, this is usually associated with social protest and criminal marginalization, while in the Sri Lankan context, argot more often performs the function of protecting ethnic and cultural identity and resisting political and religious pressures.
