Abstract
This article is devoted to the study of handwritten forgeries as a source of information on the ideas of forgers about the external and internal form of genuine monuments of literary and documental writing. The forgeries created by collectors and antiquarians at the dawn of the formation of scientific diplomatics and paleography in Russia in the 18th-19th centuries are studied. Both forgeries naively «filling in» for the lack of ancient Russian authentic sources on national history and obviously commercial falsifications created with the purpose of raising the material value of a collectible are analysed. The article studies the techniques and methods of falsifiers used by them to impart the greatest possible antiquity to forged written monuments (pseudoarchaization of graphics and vocabulary, semantic turbidity, combination of fantasy information with genuine data, modelling of pseudofacts and creation of pseudocopies based on paraphrasing and direct citation of originals). Literary and factual falsifications of the turn of the 18th-19th centuries are considered as a certain stage in the accumulation and systematization of information about genuine monuments of Old Russian writing within the framework of the development of historical science and special historical disciplines in Russia at that time.
