| This article, using Ostap Bender's speech from I. Ilf and E. Petrov's novel «The Golden Calf», presents an analysis of dominance tactics within the character's overall manipulative strategy. The article's relevance stems from the need for a linguistic study of methods of verbal influence on objects of manipulation and a more indepth analysis of the satirical novel of the first half of the 20th century. The aim of the study is to describe the speech moves through which dominance tactics are implemented. Communicative analysis was the primary research method. The article proposes a modeling scheme for a speech move, including identifying its intention, linguistic means, techniques, and perlocutionary effect. The linguistic mechanisms for achieving the manipulator's communicative goal are described. The results of the study are presented in summary tables. A communicative analysis of Ostap Bender's speech allowed us to clarify our understanding of Bender's linguistic personality, the language, and the content of the novel «The Golden Calf». |
