Abstract
The article describes the metaphorical models of the healing mythological spell in the sacred text “The Hymns of the Atharva-veda”, which figuratively represent archetypes of diseases or healing, affecting the sensory perception of the recipient of the spell. The study traces the connection between the notions of “spell” and “myth”, which is expressed in the presence of common cultural universals in their semantics, which can be represented in the form of cultural codes. It is noted that the cultural code can be represented with the help of a metaphor that contains sacred and ritual images that are associated with traditions and archaic consciousness of the people. The usage of the descriptive and analytical method demonstrated that the actualization of the semantics of the healing spell by metaphorical constructions in the sacred text is due to their ability to activate structures in the individual’s memory as elements of subjective reality. It is concluded that the semantics of the healing mythological spell in the “The Hymns of the Atharva-veda” is presented using metaphorical models: “Disease is fire”, “The flight of an arrow (hawk) is “driving away” the disease”, “Water is the source of recovery (vital forces)”, “Indra’s lightning (Agni’s sunlight) is getting rid of the disease”, “ “Driving away" the disease behind high mountains (in hard-to-reach places) is getting rid of the disease".
