The practice of social escapism, i.e. urban youth's escape from reality to the areas of activity disapproved by society, is an indication of social problems that exist in contemporary Russian society. Social escapism has appeared due to three basic social factors: lack of a coherent youth policy at the state level, peculiarities of the age status of youth as a social group and, more importantly, the spiritual atmosphere of the contemporary Russian society focused on consumerism. All these three factors pose a threat to the spiritual security of the modern Russian society.
