This paper is an attempt to integrate macro and micro approaches in the family sociology, based on P. Bourdieu’s principles of genetic structuralism and also on the categories of private and demographic field and private and demographic habitus developed by the author. Based on these methodological concepts, an analysis of the evolution of the family, family practices, including the matrimonial relations, child-bearing, family interaction, and family crises is carried out. The state and behavior of the modern family are interpreted; such phenomena as marriage postponement, control of and decrease in child-bearing, non-marital births, divorces, etc. are explained. The conclusion is made that the existing model of relations between people in the sphere of private life is relatively new.
