This article presents the results of the study that aims to investigate the process of building trust. It was discovered that trust can serve as a certain mark of emotional stability. The lack of such a trait affects not only the ability of a person to trust other (unknown) people but also the possibility of being considered trustworthy by them. We prove that human face conveys some information that helps onlookers to evaluate emotional stability/instability of the individual. This information is obtained subconsciously. Nevertheless, it does influence one’s decision on whether to take something that a stranger might say at face value or not. Importantly, it was revealed that the tendency of not trusting people indicates a low level of other-orientation.
