In this article the author examines the problem of preserving traditional family values in Russian society. The social institution that plays the leading role in this respect is general education. In the author’s opinion, teaching family values to high school students becomes a mechanism that helps teenagers to consciously adopt those values as well as certain behavioral strategies and roles in a changing society. The experience of Tatarstan in developing an experimental subject called “Family Studies” in the educational environment of the region is analyzed.
