Classification of young workers by type of self-identification (economic, political, confidence in the future, and life satisfaction) using k-means clustering was performed based on empirical data of the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey of HSE from 1994 to 2012. The research based on the analysis of 19 501 representatives of young workers aged 16 -30 has identified four main types of young workers’ self-identification. These types may be conventionally designated as follows: "well-to-do", "aspiring", "undecided", "disadvantaged". Our data show that over the years of the research period, on average, the largest section in the structure of young workers consists of those with the "well-to-do" self-identification (42%). However, the "disadvantaged" young workers with negative indicators of self-identification account for almost a quarter (20%). It is a relatively high figure and a disturbing element in the structure of modern society, since it has a negative correlation with social solidarity (cooperation between the rich and the poor, the powerful and the powerless) and under any social crisis it can destabilize society.
