The role of cognitive and sociocultural functions in the modern Russian family is examined. We analyze the degree of involvement of family members in the implementation of these functions and compare the views of different age groups on the subject. Our study involved in-depth interviews with 30 persons representing different age groups. The process of changing sociocultural and cognitive functions of the family is considered in the overall context of the transformation processes in modern society. The problems of modern families as the consequences of such processes are identified.
